15 Months Old

Henry turned 15 months old this week! He had a great checkup and is right on track. His head still continues to be ahead of the rest of his body in growth and is in the 90th percentile, while his height was in the 50th percentile and his weight was in the 10th. The doctor said she typically sees the weight drop a little as kids become more mobile and it will catch up. He has really started running this week and has learned how to walk backwards. He and Josie have been having fun lately crawling under things, in particular, our bed. They don't make a noise once they are under there, so if I didn't know to look I could lose them for awhile:)

Josie has had a rough week fighting an ear infection and more reflux issues. To be honest, she has not slept through the night since her surgery in August. While it has been somewhat manageable the last couple of weeks have been pretty bad. I haven't awakened in my own bed in weeks and Chad is now having to help during the night because she is waking up in pain so frequently. Chad and I are actually both in our bed probably 3 - 4 hours a night. We've tried sleeping with her, sleeping in the recliner, and sleeping with her in our bed and nothing works. We've always been against the kids sleeping in our bed, but at this point if she would sleep with us we would welcome it. The biggest problem is that Josie is then really tired during the day. It is making her grumpy and she is crying more than she usually does. We think it is mostly reflux related, so it is hard to find a good solution. Josie's fundo surgery basically isn't working anymore to keep food from coming back into her esophagus and she is already on a high dose of reflux medicine. We started some new medicine to help her sleep this week and are making changes to her diet. Josie made a switch to soy milk because her GI scope and immunology tests showed that she was exhibiting some allergy symptoms to milk. The soy has made her color a lot better, but she has developed a constant runny nose and the reflux seems to be worse. Our nutritionist thinks Josie also has a soy allergy, so we are switching her to hemp milk. It is much lower calorie than what she's been on, so we have a little work to do to find high calorie food that we can blend into the hemp milk. We should see some benefit over the next several weeks if it is truly the cause of her nose drip and reflux. Chad and I are hoping by January she will be sleeping better and we can leave this state of sleep deprivation that we seem to be stuck in.
