Best Laid Plans

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We had a good Thanksgiving, although not as we had planned. We were looking forward to a Thanksgiving full of good health and no hospitals, unfortunately, Chad ended up spending a good part of the holiday break in the hospital with his dad. Even though things didn't turn out as expected we really couldn't have asked for a better end to the holiday. Chad's dad, Mike, had a burst appendix and perforated colon, which had happened a couple of days before he went into emergency surgery on Wednesday night. By the time it was diagnosed his body had filled with infection and he was septic. The surgeon predicted that if they had waited much longer to do the surgery Mike wouldn't be with us today. The good news is that he is in exceptional health, in fact, slalom skied with us this summer at the age of...(let's just say high 50's:), so he is recovering at a fast rate. He was released from the hospital today; three days early than expected. Mike has a long road to recovery including another surgery to repair some of the damage, but today we are just so thankful he is still with us. The kids and I spent the holiday break at my parents and although we missed Chad, I was so glad he was with his dad in the hospital.
