We took the kids to see Santa last week at a special event that Johnson County Infant/Toddler holds for kids they are serving. I thought it would be great opportunity to see Santa in a quiet environment and without as many people as we would be around at the mall. Boy was I wrong:) We waited in line for 45 minutes just so the kids could scream the minute we put them on Santa's lap. I have no idea why I thought a two and one year old would be willing to sit on a stranger's lap that happens to look like Santa. The pictures pretty much show Henry crying and me trying to catch Josie while she runs away. Maybe we will have a better shot next year. Sometimes you just have to laugh at the situations you get yourself in as a parent.
The kids are doing well and were able to play outside a little this week, which we haven't done in a while. They both enjoyed it. Henry just cut a new molar this morning, so he has been fairly cranky, although I don't blame him at all. It was pretty swollen the last couple of days. His new thing now is to throw himself on the floor screaming when he doesn't get what he wants. I really don't understand where kids learn this stuff. I just ignore him and eventually he looks at me wondering why it didn't work. Josie has been patting him on the head to tell him it is going to be okay.
Josie has made a good transition to the hemp milk and her nose has dried up which seems to support the idea that she had an allergy to soy. Unfortunately, she still isn't sleeping well. We put her through a battery of tests this week and should hear something soon. There are a couple of other little things she has going on that when you put it all together makes our pediatrician concerned. I really felt relief when Chad and I took her to the pediatrician's office this week and she agreed that we need to get to the bottom of it. Before the nurses took a couple of samples Josie looked at me and signed 'scared'. It broke my heart and the nurses were very bothered by it. I'm so glad she is able to tell me she is scared, but it was definitely hard to see. Henry was a real trooper through the doctor's appointments. He spent probably three hours in the stroller Tuesday morning and was such a good boy. Thank god for ipads, Toy Story, and Teddy Grahams which all kept him content.
This week, we also visited the preschool at the Kansas School for the Deaf. How exciting it was to see a classroom that Josie would thrive in! They have five students with two teachers and a teacher's aide. The exciting thing is that the other kids sign! I can't wait to see what Josie thinks about being around kids her own age who communicate just like she does. We had our first transition to preschool meeting today with the Blue Valley School District and they feel like it would be a good option to send Josie to KSD rather than attend a preschool class in our district. We are excited about this in that Josie can be around people who communicate just like she does and it provides her a great opportunity to take her sign language to a whole new level. The district will be doing some testing between now and March before Josie starts school, but it is definitely exciting to start this new chapter in her life.
Sounds like both kiddos are waking up from naps, so I better go. Hope everyone has a good weekend and make sure you cheer for the Gorillas!!
