1st Christmas

Josie had a wonderful 1st Christmas! As you can see from the picture she is enjoying her new toys. The three of us spent Christmas at home this year. Josie was recovering from a cold (more on this later), so we decided to stay home and avoid the potential for another illness. We unfortunately, missed the last Scott Christmas and the Johnson Christmas. It was tough not seeing everyone, but we hope it will result in a few weeks of good health. We had a really nice day in the new house and lounging around together. With everything we've been through lately, we haven't had much time to just enjoy each others company. We felt so fortunate to be in our new house for the holidays and Gramma Scott worked her tail off to get us settled and even had the house decorated for Christmas. We were so thankful for all her work and it really made it seem like we were truly home for the holidays. We are celebrating Christmas with Gramma and Grampa Scott and Uncle Phil today. Then, Grammy and Papa Stewart, Uncle Corey, and Lane are coming this week. We are really looking forward to them all spending some time with Josie. She is starting to crawl (although only backwards right now:) and sit up on her own. Chad and I realized yesterday that this is a whole new ballgame. She is mobile and we need to get the house babyproofed fast. It seems like it really just happened over night. She is so small we are afraid we are going to lose her:) Especially since she likes to back under furniture.

Josie is enjoying a much better week than last. I was so tired of posting about illnesses, surgeries, and hospital visits that I waited until good news from Christmas to update the blog. Last week Josie had her first cold. This wouldn't be a big deal for most kids, you'd lose a little sleep and they would be uncomfortable for awhile, but for a kiddo recovering from surgery it really threw her for a loop. We spent a good part of the week not sleeping and Josie couldn't tolerate any formula for about 4 days. We would feed her with the g-tube, she would get upset, and then we would vent the whole feed out. Needless to say she lost weight and we are working back up to 14 pounds again. To make matters worst, in my sleep deprived state I pulled her g-tube out when putting her in her crib Wednesday at about midnight. Chad and I quickly got the replacement tube in and drove her to Kansas City. We went to Children's Mercy south and they secured the tube, but didn't have the capabilities to x-ray it with contrast to make sure it was in the
correct place. We then drove Josie to the downtown Children's Mercy and got the x-ray. We pulled back into Pittsburg about 7 a.m. In a couple of months the track on her g-tube should be fully healed and we will be able to replace the g-tube ourselves at home. This will hopefully reduce our KC trips. This was our second trip to KC that week because Josie had her follow-up appointments with nutrition, occupational therapy, and Ear, Nose, Throat. The appointments went pretty well. They switched Josie to a hypoallergenic formula to see if she will digest it easier. She was having some trouble digesting her old formula fast enough to be ready for the next feed. At ENT they checked her hearing and again couldn't confirm hearing in her right ear. We are now scheduled for an ABR hearing test in late January where Josie's hearing and brain response will be evaluated. We are hoping to do a sleep deprived test successfully. If Josie wakes up during the test we will have to do a sedated test. We are hoping to avoid the sedated test since Josie is still considered to have a compromised airway due to the larnygomalacia that is still healing from surgery. It was quite a week to add moving to the schedule, but we fortunately are moved and settled and Josie is gaining weight again.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and wish you a happy New Year! We look forward to the new year and all it will bring for Josie!
