Are We There Yet??

We are counting down the days until Henry's arrival. We have scheduled the c-section for September 10th, so it is nice to have an end in sight. My doctor doesn't know if we will make it until then, but so far things are pretty stable. Henry's weight is starting to slow down and this week he weighed 5 lbs. 8 oz. The doctor will take another look at him on Monday and see if this has slowed more.

Josie is continuing to do well. She has gained all the weight back that she lost from her recent surgery. She is eating well, but not sleeping well. I think we are going to have two kids who get up several times a night for awhile. Josie is expressing her opinion more and more and it is good to see her want some independence. She is really getting good at cruising around the furniture and climbing. Our new issue is pulling chairs and bar stools over on ourselves. So far she has proven to be a pretty tough kiddo.

Josie met her speech therapist this week at the hospital in Pittsburg. We are excited to begin speech therapy and Josie will now go for an hour a week. We are going to start working on sign language since Josie is so delayed in vocalizing speech sounds. Also, Josie's therapist is trained in swallow therapy so we are going to work on some sensory things to get Josie more used to having food in her mouth. The therapist suggested that we wait until after her November surgery, when her airway should be much improved, to push oral feedings. I also visited with her about the ENT findings at Mayo which suggested that Josie had a submucous cleft palate. She recommended we get this evaluated further in case Josie needs surgery. It can effect both her ability to eat and speak. Sounds like we are going to be adding that to our list of appointments that begin in late September.

I'll try to post more next week about Henry...
