Day 3 at Mayo

What a day. We started at 7:15 for a 2 1/2 hour appointment with genetics basically to learn that we may not have any luck pinpointing the particular cause for all of Josie's issues. This is not critical but it would be nice to accomplish this mainly to offer some insight into future problems Josie may face. Then we headed to the orthopedic surgeon. He said Josie's xrays showed a curvature of the spine but not enough to be classified as scoliosis. Great news and we will just need to do a repeat xray every 6 months to check that the curve is not getting worse. After that appointment we did more xrays and blood work order by doctors we've already seen before heading to the eye exam. The eye doctor confirmed our suspicions that Josie's right eye is wandering towards her nose. Josie will now have to wear a patch over her left eye four hours a day to force her brain to use the right eye and strengthen it. Also, Josie is now showing a little nearsightedness and the doctor recommended glasses. We aren't sure we are going to try them yet. It is hard to imagine her putting up with glasses... We finally made it back to the room about mid afternoon with an exhausted kid. Tomorrow isn't quite so busy with only the ear, nose, and throat doctor and a checkin with the pediatrician who is managing our visit.

I'll post more tomorrow...
